He has since 1938 been produced, but now there is an end: the Volkswagen Beetle. The brand say goodbye to the iconic Beetle with the Final Edition.

It was nota bene Adolf Hitler in the ’30s of the last century Ferdinand Porsche was asked to do a ‘volksauto’ to build. In 1938 began the production of the Volkswagen Type 1, better known to us as the Beetle. In the end, the compact, convex car with the (original air cooled) engine at the rear became incredibly popular in the post-war decades. Only all of the first generation Beetle over 21 million copies were built. In 1998 appeared the retromodel New Beetle.

Still, the Beetle is available new, also as a cabriolet. That, however, will not be long. Volkswagen announces that the brand next year, the production stops. The main reason is the transition to electric cars. There are no plans to bring the Volkswagen Beetle to replace. Still, says Hinrich J. Wöbcken, ceo of Volkswagen Group of America: “never Say never.” He refers to the I. D. of Buzz, the modern and electric version of the famous Volkswagen bus to which it is able to come.

Volkswagen is now taking farewell of the Beetle with the Final Edition – or actually two editions, the SE and SEL – that is unfortunately only being released in North America. The afscheidsmodel appears as a coupé and cabriolet in unique colors, exclusive stylistic elements that allude to previous special editions.
